Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Philadelphia is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Root beer was unique and definitely homemade. Kids liked their ice dream. Would have loved a kids or small float option. Instead, I convinced my husband to share a root beer float. Atmosphere was cool but there wasn’t any seating inside and the floors were sticky.

The Franklin Fountain was one of our favorite stops in Philadelphia! The moment you walk in, it feels like you've stepped back in time with the beautiful vintage dΓ©cor, old-fashioned soda fountain, and historic atmosphere. The homemade ice cream was absolutely delicious, and there were so many unique flavors to choose from. The staff was friendly, and even though it was busy, the line moved quickly. If you're visiting Old City and looking for a fun dessert spot with incredible ice cream and a nostalgic experience, The Franklin Fountain is a must-visit! We can't wait to come back.

Visited May 25th, while the vintage atmosphere is nice, the service and layout are inefficient. Despite explicitly requesting and paying for a sugar cone, and confirming the order twice at the register, it was incorrectly handed to me in a takeout box. The staff offered to simply dump the ice cream from the takeout box onto a cone. Recognizing the lack of professional execution, I declined the offer and chose to leave. The almond cherry flavor itself was average at best. Additionally, the business functions as an outdoor stand with no indoor seating rather than the full shop. Between the service oversight and the restricted layout, the experience is not worth the premium price tag.

Cool creamy ice cream! Enjoyable exercise with many flavor options. Cones cups and fountain drinks are available. Gluten free options are available for many flavors. I loved the lavender caramel honey. It had just the right sweetness. All seating is outdoors. Definitely a place I’ll return to.

Old-timey joy for neighbors and tourists alike! As a resident of Old City, I’m fortunate to call this corner ice cream parlor and soda fountain mine. The homemade ice cream is delicious. I recommend the honeycomb ice cream, as well as the caramelized banana. The interior space is charmingly Victorian. The hype is most definitely justified!
